What?! 5 months old?? Where has the time gone?
This past month was a blur with all of the holiday travel, but we had so much fun! Liam is now a rolling machine, has a couple of teeth on their way in (hopefully!), and is still growing like crazy! We don’t have another pediatrician appointment until next month, but our little man is currently weighing in at 20 lbs 8 oz!
I’ve had a number of mommy friends with babies around the same age say that their pediatrician gave them the go-ahead to start solids. I’m thinking we’ll wait until 6 months, but I was wondering what you all did. What was your babes first food? Did you start with purees, or did you do baby-led weaning? I haven’t read much about it, or the benefits, but am interested in learning more about it this month.
Teething has been rough on our little guy, and I’m looking forward to the day that those teeth finally break through. For some reason, it looks like his lateral incisors are coming in first on the bottom. Did anyone else experience this?
I would say we’ve definitely been experiencing some 4 month sleep regression. It may have something to do with the teething, but our little guy has been waking up 3-4 times a night. During the day we’ve been following the “eat, play, sleep” schedule from the book Baby Wise that was recommended by my sister-in-law. Liam seems to thrive on a more frequent nap schedule. I’m not sure if it has something to do with how active he is, or the length of his naps, but here’s what we do. Liam is currently taking 3-4 naps for about 40 min – 1 hr 30 min (if mama holds him for the second half of his nap – beyond the 40 min mark). We started out 4 months with an awake period of 1 hr 20 min and now his awake period is 1 hr 30 min to 2 hrs. His shortest awake period is early in the morning, so for instance if he wakes up at 7am, I put him back down for a nap at 8:30am. I add 15 minutes to every awake period throughout the day. So right before bed is his longest awake period of 2 hrs. Putting him to sleep a number of times in the day is a lot of work, so I’m hoping once he starts taking longer naps, he’ll be able to be the happy little guy he is with longer awake periods.
He is now sleeping in his crib, and we’re still using the Miracle Blanket Swaddle. Now that he can roll, I’m working on transitioning him off the swaddle, and am looking into using the Zipadee-Zip. It’s a product my sister told me about, and it has rave reviews from other moms. We are currently waiting for more mediums to be stocked!
Liam is becoming crazy about the water and starts kicking with excitement every time we get close to the pool or the bath tub now. I love seeing how he progresses at each of his swim lessons. We had a fun time meeting up with some of the other parents and babies from our birthing group this weekend, and are excited to spend some time at home for a few weeks. His daddy and I feel so blessed to be his parents, and often find ourselves looking at pictures of him while he’s asleep. I can’t wait for what this month has in store for our little guy!
